Alpinestars Tech 7 Enduro Review After 150 Hours – A Slow Vet Rider’s Honest Take

When riders talk about motocross or enduro boots, the Alpinestars Tech 7 Enduro is often mentioned as one of the best mid-range premium options. I’ve now used these boots for about two and a half years and roughly 150 riding hours, across enduro, hard enduro, motocross, and amateur supercross. So, this is my Alpinestars TECH 7 Enduro review.
This is not a short-term first impression. This is a long-term, real-world review from the perspective of a slow vet rider who values comfort, protection, durability, and practical design more than racing performance.
So, are the Alpinestars Tech 7 Enduro boots worth the money? Let’s break it down.
Comfort and Fit: One of the Strongest Points

Comfort is one of the biggest strengths of the Tech 7 Enduro boots.
Very comfortable right out of the box
Good fit around the calves
A tight seal at the top keeps dirt and debris out
Secure feeling without being overly restrictive
I wear EU size 43 (US 9). The fit is good, but slightly on the large side for me. A 42.5 would have been perfect, but Alpinestars doesn’t offer half sizes. That’s not a dealbreaker, but it would have made the fit more precise.
That said, these are riding boots—not walking shoes. A tiny bit of extra room is not a big issue once you’re on the bike.

Enduro Sole: Better Grip Off the Bike
One reason to choose the Tech 7 Enduro over the standard Tech 7 is the enduro sole.
This sole offers:
Better grip when walking on rocks
More traction when pushing the bike
Improved control when dabbling in technical terrain
For hard enduro and slow technical riding, this is a big advantage. The sole has held up well after 150 hours, and even though there is visible wear, the outsole is replaceable, which is a nice bonus for long-term ownership.
Durability: Holding Up Well With Some Battle Scars
Overall, durability has been good.
After:
2.5 years
150 hours of riding
Mixed enduro, hard enduro, motocross, and amateur supercross
…the boots are still structurally solid.
There are cosmetic marks and some damage, but not everything is the boot’s fault. One burn mark came from riding a friend’s Yamaha YZ250F that had no exhaust heat shield, which caused the boot to touch the hot pipe. The outer material burned slightly, but this did not affect the protection or usability of the boot.
This kind of damage can happen with any boot in real-world riding.
Protection: Doing Their Job When It Matters
In terms of protection, the Tech 7 Enduro has done exactly what I expect from a quality dirt bike boot.
Multiple impacts with rocks
A few crashes
General off-road abuse
Despite this, I haven’t had any serious foot or ankle injuries. Some pain and soreness, yes—but nothing unusual for off-road riding. The boots offer good support and impact protection for enduro, motocross, and trail riding.

The Big Weak Point: Buckle Design
This is where things start to fall apart—literally.
The buckle system on the Tech 7 Enduro is, in my opinion, poorly designed:
Two buckles close in one direction
Two buckles close in the opposite direction
The buckles that close in the “wrong” direction tend to:
Catch in bushes and branches
Open while riding
Eventually rip off completely
This has happened to me more than once. The buckles that close the other way have never opened accidentally. That tells me the design itself is the problem.
For a premium boot, this is a frustrating design flaw.
Alpinestars Customer Support: Very Disappointing
Unfortunately, the customer support experience was even worse than the buckle design.
When the buckles ripped off, I contacted Alpinestars in Thailand (where the boots are made). I was told I needed to send the boots to Italy for inspection, and that spare parts were not available locally.
I then contacted:
Alpinestars head office
Their US office
Alpinestars on Instagram
Responses were slow, unhelpful, and dismissive. Eventually, I was told I could order the spare parts myself. No explanation of why the buckles failed. No acknowledgment of the design issue. No real customer care.
In the end, I ordered spare buckles from Sweden and had a friend send them to me. The whole process took far longer than it should have.
Customer support rating: 2 out of 5. This alone is a reason why I personally will not buy another pair of Alpinestars boots.
Final Verdict: Great Boots With Some Serious Flaws
What’s good:
Very comfortable
Good fit and calf seal
Enduro sole works well off the bike
Good protection
Overall, durable after 150 hours
What’s bad:
Poor buckle design (direction causes buckles to open and break)
No half sizes
Very poor customer support
Spare parts are hard to get in some regions
Should You Buy Alpinestars Tech 7 Enduro Boots?
That depends on your situation.
You might love them if:
They fit your feet perfectly
You don’t experience buckle issues
Spare parts are easy to get where you live
You might want to look elsewhere if:
Customer support matters to you
You ride in tight bushes and technical terrain
You expect premium service for a premium-priced product
For me, the boots themselves are good—but the buckle design and customer support experience mean I won’t buy Alpinestars again.
The most important thing when choosing dirt bike boots is still fit. No matter how good a boot is on paper, if it doesn’t fit your foot and leg properly, it’s the wrong boot for you.
FAQ – Alpinestars Tech 7 Enduro
❓ Are Alpinestars Tech 7 Enduro boots good for enduro riding?
Yes. The Alpinestars Tech 7 Enduro boots are designed for enduro and trail riding. They have a softer, grippy sole compared to the regular Tech 7, which gives better feel and traction when walking on rocks, mud, and technical terrain.
❓ What is the difference between Alpinestars Tech 7 and Tech 7 Enduro?
The main difference is the sole. The Tech 7 Enduro has a stitched, grippier sole for off-bike grip and technical terrain. The regular Tech 7 has a flatter MX-style sole made mainly for motocross tracks.
❓ Are Alpinestars Tech 7 Enduro boots comfortable for long rides?
Yes. Many riders find them comfortable for long enduro rides once they are broken in. They offer good ankle support while still allowing enough movement for clutch and brake control.
❓ How long do Alpinestars Tech 7 Enduro boots last?
With normal use, they can last several years. Durability depends on how often you ride, riding style, terrain, and how well you clean and maintain them. Hard enduro and a lot of walking will wear the sole faster.
❓ Are Alpinestars Tech 7 Enduro boots waterproof?
No. They are not fully waterproof. They handle splashes and light rain well, but your feet will get wet in deep water crossings or heavy rain. There is a waterproof version too.
❓ Can you replace the sole on Alpinestars Tech 7 Enduro boots?
Officially, Alpinestars does not offer easy user-replaceable soles. Some riders use local cobblers to resole them, but results depend on the workshop and the type of riding.
❓ Are Alpinestars Tech 7 Enduro boots good for hard enduro?
Yes. They offer a good balance between protection and walking grip, which is useful for hard enduro where you often push the bike, walk on rocks, or dab your feet in technical sections.
❓ Do Alpinestars Tech 7 Enduro boots fit true to size?
Generally yes. Most riders choose their normal shoe size. If you are between sizes or use thick socks, trying them on before buying is recommended.
❓ Are Alpinestars Tech 7 Enduro boots good for motocross?
They work for motocross, but the Enduro sole is softer and wears faster on metal foot pegs. Also, the protection for the ankles is a bit softer to make them more "walkable". For pure motocross and track riding, the regular Tech 7 or Tech 10 is usually a better choice.
❓ Are Alpinestars Tech 7 Enduro boots worth the price?
For many riders, yes. They offer a strong mix of comfort, protection, and durability at a lower price than top-level race boots, making them a popular mid-range choice.
